Story
Long ago Dasharatha promised Kaikeyi two boons. Misled by Manthara’s jealousy, she asked for Bharat’s coronation and Ram’s 14‑year vanvaas. Dasharatha collapsed in grief. The scene teaches how moha (delusion) clouds even loving hearts, and how rash promises bind kings and commoners alike.
Why it matters
A promise made years earlier, in an entirely different context, reshapes a kingdom — showing how binding a king's word was considered to be, for better or worse. Tradition rarely paints Kaikeyi as simply villainous; Manthara's manipulation is central to how this moment is understood.
