Story
In Mithila, King Janak’s swayamvar tested suitors with Rudra’s mighty bow. Shri Ram lifted the dhanush with effortless grace; when he tried to string it, the bow broke with a divine thunder. Devi Sita garlanded Ram. This union of maryada and shakti is central to the Itihasa—grihastha dharma founded on mutual respect.
Why it matters
The broken bow is one of the most depicted moments in Indian art and Ramlila performance — the instant Ram and Sita's fates are joined. It's also a public test in front of an entire kingdom, not just a private meeting of two people.
