Story
Ravana came disguised as a mendicant and abducted Sita in his Pushpak Viman after she stepped beyond the rekha. She dropped her ornaments as clues. The scene reminds us that compassion must be paired with vivek (discernment); adharma often appears in holy robes.
Why it matters
Ravan doesn't attack directly — he arrives disguised as a wandering ascetic, someone Sita's own dharma obliges her to welcome. The scene is often discussed as a warning that adharma rarely announces itself; it borrows the appearance of what deserves trust.
