Guided by Vibhishana regarding the amrita‑source, Ram invoked the Brahmastra. The shaft pierced Ravana’s heart; the king fell. Ram performed his last rites, showing that even a foe deserves punya‑sanskar—dharma never becomes hatred.
Why it matters
Even at the moment of victory, Ram performs proper last rites for Ravan — the epic is explicit that defeating an enemy is no licence to dishonour them. This scene is also the reason Diwali is celebrated at all: it marks the fall of Ravan and the restoration of dharma.
